The big question here is why doesn't the State of Michigan care about losing over $884,947 to fraud? Oh wait, the current regime has been committing fraud for 8 years. What's one more/

Oh good one more idiotic plan being thrown at teachers. Once again idiots are trying to teach teachers how to do their jobsl Let's start with No Child Left Behind. It was really mislabeled it should have been No Teacher left standing. It put a ridiculous amount of testing on kids. I'll take Michigan since that's where I taught. The first thin we did was lengthen the school day. I know it was only by 10 min. Then we went to all day kindergarten every other day execpt Friday, then the kids came half day only. Monday, Wednesday kids came in morning Tues. Thurs kids in the afternoon. Now instead of a place where kids learn to socialize, learn the alphabet games and how to count to 100. They learn to write their names. I have a friend whose son was ready to quirt school at the end of day one, He was named after his father. Instead of calling him Iittle Paul or Paul Junior or just Junior, They call him PJ, He knew how to write Paul. He was writing his name on his paper and the teacher said, You have to write your name. His response, my name is PJ. She insisted he had to answer to Paul and write Paul on the papers. Mom talked to the teacher and all the kids regardless of nicknames used at home had to write their given names. I had a student while student-teaching at Flint Northern High School who turned in his first assignment and the name on the paper was John Wayne. I graded the paper and set it aside. When I went to record grades his went on the bottom. I put all the grades in my grade book and looked to see who had been absent that day. Which left me with only one student. I gave him his grade and just handed his back to him. We were halfway through the semester before I got a paper signed with his name. I wrote on his paper. I'm so glad the real you came to class today. You do much better than those impostors who have been taking credit for your work. When I ignored the name and gave him the grade for work done under another name he took no pride in what he'd done. Finally, when he did a paper under his own name, he did a great job. He was never in fear of failing. He'd been an average student. I knew when he contributed in class there was more to him. He never wrote any name but his own after that first time. His grades came up. My supervising teacher thought I should have called him on it the first time. I knew that was not the right thing to do. Then we took recess away from kids in the morning. We needed that time so they could sit in an uninterrupted reading class for 120 minutes. Seriously, who thought that was a good idea. Then instead of teaching basic math, we started convoluting story problem with so much other junk in them those kids who struggled with reading couldn't handle the story problem. They also shortened lunch from 45mn to 30 Min. which meant once again less time out running around being a kid. Look at Finland where kids got to school from 9am-2pm, because they get that screen time is hurting their brans. They give no home work and do limited testing. Their students are exceling.

Smart kid not panicking, just calling for help. Probably the biggest thing he learned in school. Glad they save Mom and baby Riley.

I see Ohio has a smart Governor, too. Why aren't other states trying to prevent monopolies and protect current infrastructure while building new? Hello, wake up.

I'm sorry eliminating PBS money completely is wrong. Programs that children grew up learning from are being axed. Sesame Street was the best thing that happened to Public Broadcasting in decades. I cannot speak to NPR not something I ever listened to. Partly because of Sesame Street and partly because she was read to from the time she was 2 months old. My daughter was reading by age 4 when she started kindergarten. Also because of that program and others and the fact that she was read to from about a month old, my granddaughter was reading by kindergarten. Children who were from underprivileged backgrounds learned the alphabet and how to count from Sesame Street. Now there is nothing for them. So much for setting pre-school children up for failure.

Gee, five years doesn't seem long enough. If you are supporting a riot, it seems like the penalty should be tougher. Where is he getting the money for these shields? Follow the damn money.

How terribly tragic for the Otiz family and their friends. I once took the keys from a friend who was driving drunk. I'm glad I did. He passed out immediately after getting into the passenger side of the vehicle. I got us both home safely. While I couldn't rouse him to get him in the house, I did leave his keys in his lap. At some point he got cold enough to turn the vehicle on to warm himself. He roused enough to finally make his way in and pass out on my sofa.

I'm glad they arrested him. This is the kind of stuff that gets others going and promotes some fool to think it's a good idea. It's not a good idea ever.

I'm rather sick of local governments who work with a person to create something for good and then throw obstacles at him for doing what they ask. I sure hope he wins. However there really doesn't need to be anything else on James Island nor does there need to be anything else on Johns or Kiawah Islands. Charleston County has not completed the 526 access for people to get off and onto Johns or Wadmalaw Islands. It takes a good 20 minutes to get off Kiawah Island. There are only two roads off Johns Island Maybank Hwy and Main Road. They are both bumper to bumper all day and most of the night. If someone on Wadmalaw Island calls 911 for an ambulance none of the roads have shoulders for drivers to get out of the way. If the patient has not died by the time the ambulance arrives, there is no way on earth they will make it to the hospital in a reasonable time. Infrastructure in Charleston County is a nightmare. It gets worse every year. Every mayor of Charleston which includes James Island, Johns Island, Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, and Wadmalaw Island has promised to get the 526 connector finished. I lived there from 2015-18. I go there every winter for two weeks. There is one urgent care in Freshfields Village. There are no hospitals. They are in West Ashley or downtown Charleston. Walmart hasn't even made it's way to Johns or Wadmalaw Islands they are the forgotten Charleston County. I have seen accident victims air lifted off those islands because emergency vehicles cannot get to victims. James Island is just one big traffic jam waiting for a disaster to happen. The main road runs to Folly Beach. I don't care if I never see that beach. There are too many people in that area. It should be only foot traffic.
