Suspect in custody following mass stabbing at Wal-Mart in Traverse City, Michigan
The story is still developing
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – Grand Traverse County Sheriff says 11 people were injured during a stabbing Saturday afternoon at the Walmart in Traverse City at 2640 Crossing Cir.
Investigators say a 42 year old male subject, acting alone, entered Walmart in Garfield Township and used a folding knife to stab eleven people of unknown ages. A Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Deputy was on scene within minutes and took the man into custody. Citizens in Walmart also assisted in the apprehension and treatment of victims.
Munson Healthcare is currently treating 11 patients as a result of the Traverse City stabbing incident – 5 are in serious condition and 6 are in critical condition at this time.
Three people are in surgery right now
One witness said a good Samaritan pulled a gun during the attack, but did not fire. It is not clear if that action prompted the suspect to stop the stabbing spree.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has released the following statement:
Proves gun control is not the answer. People control is the problem.
I notice now those making statements (including Whitmer) about these event say only their ‘thoughts’ are with them and omit any mention of ‘prayer.’ Also there’s no mention of the ‘senseless violence’ that is always attached to gun crimes.
