This is wrong on so many levels I cannot begin to count them. I worked in a district where a DUI got a bus driver dismissed. The DUI was on his own time in his own vehicle. I don't know how this ever got passed. We had a teacher dismissed for showing an antique rifle he'd had fixed to his class. We were a no guns/no drugs district. Except on November 15th. Every kid in the high school had a rifle in his truck so he could go hunting the minute the last bell rang. Many came in from hunting before school even started. This was allowed because all guns were in locked vehicles in the backs of trucks and we all knew the young men and women who used them were only trying to help feed their families during the winter months. Every child aged 12 had to take a hunter safety course to get a license to hunt. We even had a police liaison officer let go because he played a pick-up game of basketball with some middle school boys after school and his weapon fell on the basketball court. It should have been locked in his car. It cost him his job. To even think a school district would let this nonsense fly is beyond intelligent reasoning.
And yet we’re not allowed to even consider if a teacher is capable of grooming.
