Ever since I can remember I have always asked questions.
I remember as a 6-year-old I would walk around my neighborhood with a toy camera and microphone interviewing neighbors. I would not ask them easy questions. I was a tough young reporter. I asked my neighbors about crimes in the neighborhood and suspicious behavior.
Ask my wife, I can be annoying at times when it comes to asking questions. I am a very literal person. I always have been.
In addition to asking questions I also have a lack of trust for most people.
My dad taught me to question everything, never take anything at face value, dig deep, and follow the money. My dad said if you follow the money you will find the answers.
As a journalist questioning authority is my job. My job is not to work in public relations for the government or public officials or even businesses. My job is to report accurate information on all sides —- even if it upsets someone.
There are some public officials who may not like doing interviews with me because I challenge them and ask questions they may not like.
The point of this message is that asking questions and not immediately trusting someone is a good thing. You don’t have to be a journalist to question people and think for yourself.
Critical thinking is important for everyone.
Great article. Liked that you said questioning isn't a bad thing. I always have questions in my mind. Thank you Dave. Enjoy your family.
Great article Dave, that we can all learn from as I know first-hand that you are good at everything you do.
